Public Relation of IAIN Parepare – IAIN Parepare held a semester opening ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic year, attended by all academicians, including lecturers, education staff, and students. The event took place in the Auditorium Building on Monday (26/2/2024).
The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Governor of South Sulawesi, represented by the Expert Staff for Social Welfare and Religion, Dr. H. Jayadi Nas, M.Si., and the Police Chief of Parepare, AKPB. Arman Muis, S.H., S.I.K., M.M. Both of them delivered a public lecture to the students.
Jayadi Nas, who spoke first, highlighted the rapid development of information technology and its impact on daily life, including on campus.
"Higher education institutions must be adaptive to the ever-evolving information technology. Students must not lag behind in information technology," said Jayadi Nas, who is also a former Chairman of the KPU of South Sulawesi.
"In the 4.0 era, the world revolves around information technology. Many human jobs have been replaced by technology. Humans no longer need to work. The development of technology continues to improve, entering the 5.0 era and the AI era. AI technology is even more sophisticated because it resembles humans, including their behavior and intelligence," Jayadi Nas explained.
In the second session, AKBP. Arman Muis, the Police Chief of Parepare, discussed the importance of synergy between the Police and the colleges community, including students, in law enforcement. "Synergy requires coordination, consolidation, and most importantly, collaboration. This is what needs to be built together by all parties, between students and the Police," he said.
The Police Chief acknowledged that students play a vital role in the development of the nation and state. "What is the role of students? Students are agents of change. This means that you are all agents and pioneers of change. Of course, change for the better," he continued.
"Who are students? There are three dimensions to a student, namely: Academician (educator) who gets the opportunity to learn and pursue knowledge. It is best to apply this knowledge to society to have an impact on positive change.
Furthermore, the Police Chief said that students are creative people (researchers). "As educated people, students have research (work) that is used for the wider community," he explained.
Not only that, the Parepare Police Chief said that students are devoted people.
At the end of his public lecture, the Kapolres, who was born in Pangkep, invited the students to work together to maintain security in Parepare City.
"Students, help me! Let's maintain the security and order of Parepare City! The election stages are still ongoing, and the atmosphere and conduciveness of the community must be built together," he said.
The Police Chief concluded his lecture by inviting the students to communicate with him personally. "My number is open 24 hours, please contact me if you have anything to do. Including if you want to have coffee," he said while giving out his contact number. (Shr/Tin/MM)
