Humas IAIN Parepare --- A lecturer of Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Law at IAIN Parepare, Dr. H. Islamul Haq, had become one of the speakers at an international conference forum organized by the Directorate General of Islamic Education of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. The event took place over four days (February 1–4, 2024) in Semarang, Central Java.
This international forum is known as the Annual International Conference on Islamic Studies (AICIS). The event brought together hundreds of lecturers/academics and researchers from various universities in Indonesia and abroad.
For the recent year, this prestigious event was held by the theme “Redefining Roles of Religion in Addressing Human Crisis: Encountering Peace, Justice, and Human Rights Issues”.
After being declared qualified as a presenter for AICIS 2024, Islamul Haq presented his research paper titled “Reassessing Maslahah: Analysis of the South Sulawesi MUI Fatwa 2023 (No. 003) Regarding Plant Transactions for Swine Feed in Minority Regions”.
Islamul Haq, a graduate of Al-Azhar University in Cairo, critically examines the MUI South Sulawesi Fatwa issued in 2023.
In his presentation, Islamul Haq highlights the approach of the South Sulawesi MUI Fatwa Number 003 of 2023, which utilizes the concept of maslahah.
According to him, the MUI fatwa reflects a commitment to balance Islamic legal principles with the public interest of society.
"Granting permission for the sale of sweet potato leaves to pig farmers in minority Muslim areas is a wise step in aligning economic interests, community welfare, and religious principles. The MUI approach is appropriate and provides a solution in pluralistic community life," Islamul Haq explained, who is also the Secretary of LPM IAIN Parepare.
He continued that the decision of MUI South Sulawesi reflects an Islamic legal approach that understands and adapts to the local context. He also emphasized that ijtihad in Islamic law should be able to accommodate the practical needs of the community while maintaining religious values.
This discussion received a response from the Vice Director of Postgraduate Studies of North Sumatra Islamic State University (UINSU), Prof. Nurussakinah Daulay, who served as the discussant at the presentation forum.
According to her, the speaker's (Islamul Haq) topic is very interesting and relevant to the current context.
